How I Plan a Full Month of Social Media Content for My Clients (Before the Month Even Starts)
Social media content planning in progress!
One of the biggest struggles I see from businesses trying to grow on social media is staying consistent.
Usually, it looks like this:
You realize you haven’t posted in a while, scramble to come up with something, and quickly throw it together just to keep your feed alive. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone.
That’s why one of the most valuable things I offer through Social Crush is planning and creating an entire month of content ahead of time. It’s thoughtful, intentional, and gives you one less thing to stress about.
In this post, I’ll walk you through how I do it. There are three main steps: content planning, filming, and then editing and scheduling. I’ve also included the timeline I follow, so you can get a feel for how it all fits together each month.
Step 1: Content Planning
When this happens: The last week of the month before
Example: For March content, I start planning during the last week of January
This is where everything begins.
I don’t just brainstorm random post ideas. I start by thinking about what’s going on with your audience right now. What are they feeling this month? What are they searching for? What services are they likely to need? What’s going on in their world that might shape how they engage with your content?
I also check in on your business goals. Are you promoting something? Booking out a service? Hoping to drive more engagement or reach?
I look at the calendar too. Are there any seasonal events, industry awareness days, or holidays that relate to your brand?
From there, I revisit your content pillars to make sure they still align with your goals, then map out the number of posts that feels both realistic and impactful.
Once that’s all mapped out, I write a brief for each post. If we’re filming Reels, I’ll include scripts or rough outlines to make the filming process smooth and organized.
Behind the scenes of on-site content creation. Getting our client mic’d up for a video interview.
Step 2: Filming and Content Creation
When this happens: The first two weeks of the month before
Example: For March content, filming happens in the first two weeks of February
With the plan in place, the next step is to capture the content.
For client projects, this usually means one or two in-person filming sessions. I help coordinate timing around your team’s availability and business hours so we can make the most of our time on-site.
During filming, I capture a mix of visuals, depending on your brand and goals. This could include:
Reels or short-form videos for Instagram and TikTok
Team interactions and service shots
Behind-the-scenes moments
Photos for static posts or graphics
Because we already know what we’re shooting, these sessions are efficient and collaborative.
Step 3: Editing, Scheduling, and Building the Content Calendar
When this happens: The last two weeks of the month before
Example: For March content, I edit and schedule during the last two weeks of February
After filming, I shift into editing and organizing everything.
This is where it all comes together. I:
Edit Reels and polish photo content
Design any needed graphics or carousel slides
Write final captions with hashtags and call-to-actions
Create a clean, easy-to-use content calendar for the month
That calendar includes:
A full view of what’s posting and when
A visual preview of your feed layout
Captions and creatives for each post
Any additional story content or promo idea
By the time the new month starts, everything is ready to go.
I create content using both a camera and iPhone.
